Coastal advocates sound alarm over reported Newsom trailer bill that would gut Coastal Act protections in Santa Monica: City officials and coastal advocates scrambled this week to organize opposition to what they described as an extraordinary move by Gov. Gavin Newsom to exempt all multi-unit housing development in the city's coastal zone from the California Coastal Act until the city completes a certified Local Coastal Program. After a day of frantic meetings, the lawmaker most closely associated with coastal legislation affecting Santa Monica said he had no knowledge of any such measure before the chaos, that he opposed attempts to undermine existing rules and that it’s possible the entire idea may never see the light of day. More details here.
The Street Seen: 214/218 Strand Street (Storz) @ 2nd St: In 1923, a 4-unit bungalow court is constructed on the south side of Strand St between Main and 2nd St. More details here.
Turtles welcomed to the Promenade: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pizzeria officially opened on Saturday with lines up and down the block and an appearance by the turtles themselves. More details here along with pics.
