Volunteers Wanted to Staff OPA Booth at 10/19 Day of the Dog Main St. Event: The biggest day of the year for Main St. is less than two weeks away! Volunteering for an hour or two at the OPA tent is the best way to get to know other people in the organization and community! City Continues Funding for Neighborhood Groups with Condition Against Candidate Endorsements: Funding for Neighborhood Organizations was approved. However, The grants will be reduced in size and awarded according to the number of households in each neighborhood. And if an organization endorses or opposes political candidates after receiving taxpayer dollars, they will be ineligible for a grant for at least 5 years, and they will not be listed on the city's website. OPA has never spent any money, let alone taxpayer dollars, on endorsements. More details here.
City statement on federal shutdown impacts in Santa Monica: "The city does not anticipate any disruptions to Santa Monica services or programs as a result of the current federal government shutdown. In anticipation of the potential shutdown, city teams have worked over the past week to ensure any federally-funded programs, such as housing vouchers, can continue without significant impacts to residents."
Pier Bridge Replacement Project moves forward as temporary replica of iconic pier sign is installed: Construction is expected to begin in late 2025 and conclude by the end of 2027. The Pier restaurants and shops, parking and visitor access will remain open to welcome the public throughout the duration of the project. As part of the project, the historic blue Pier sign will be removed and restored. The original Pier sign is scheduled to be removed at the end of the year and stored until project completion. The refurbished sign will be reinstalled at the end of construction, elevated for improved visibility and clearance. More details here.

The Street Seen: A Model Bakery (2700 - 2706 Main St @ Hill St): In 1916, a 1-story brick retail building is constructed on the southwest corner of Main St and Hill St. A bakery occupies the building until 1926, when the building is moved 40 ft west to allow for the widening of Main St. More details here.
