Los Angeles Declared Best City For Pizza in The United States

8:00 AM PDT on April 1, 2023

Los Angeles has always been known for its diverse and vibrant food culture, but a recent survey has risen the “who has the best pizza debate” to a whole new level. According to the study released today by the Federal Organization of Litmus Surveys, Los Angeles has been declared the best city for pizza in the United States.

The survey, conducted annually, gathers intel from Yelp, Google, and Reddit about the best pizzerias across the country and then surveys them for factors such as the quality of the ingredients, customer service, and the overall pizza experience. Los Angeles emerged on top, decisively beating other major cities like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

So, what makes Los Angeles the best city for pizza? One factor that sets Los Angeles apart is its diverse population, which has brought various pizza styles to the city. From traditional Neapolitan-style pies at coveted destinations like L Antica de Michele to creative fusion pizzas like Thai Curry Pizza or the sourdough beauties by Quarantine Pizza Co., Los Angeles has something for everyone.

The classic New York-style slice is readily available, but so too are Chicago deep-dish (looking at you, Doughbox), Detroit-style at the newly hyped Fuji & Vi’s Pizza in Pasadena, and even pizza on the street via Elio’s Wood Fire Pizza. Los Angeles also has a thriving food truck scene, allowing even more experimentation with pizza toppings and styles. If you haven’t been to Pizzeria Sei, you should stop reading this story and rush there to take a bite; that pizza alone will change even the most stubborn New Yorker-who-secretly-loves-L.A.’s opinion. It’s low-key, affordable, and utterly delicious.

All that pie variety is really thanks to transplants who hate Los Angeles, yet they bring the food, recipes, and techniques they love. And with access to the freshest products and quality meats, it's a no-brainer why Los Angeles would eventually excel in the food transplants swear is better back home. New Yorkers and Chicagoans really only have themselves to be mad at for quite literally bringing the pizza title to Los Angeles. You’ve earned it.

In addition to the quality of the pizza itself, the survey credits Los Angeles pizzerias for excelling in customer service and the overall dining experience. Many of the city's top pizzerias have inviting decor, as well as attentive and knowledgeable chefs who are passionate about the pizza they bring to the west coast.

Of course, declaring Los Angeles the best city for pizza is subjective and open to debate. But one thing is clear: the city has truly earned its spot as a top destination for pizza lovers. Whether you're a fan of classic slices or more experimental toppings, Los Angeles has something to satisfy your pizza cravings. So next time you're in town, be sure to check out some of the city's top pizzerias and see why Los Angeles is the best city for pizza.

The above reporting is based on a recent study by the Federal Organization of Litmus Surveys.
